The
City Marina is the boating center of historic
Charleston, Voted Marina of the Year 1999,
2000, 2001.
The
Marina consists of an existing +1,000 ft of
fuel dock, and with the addition of a 2000
ft attenuator, the goal was to provide high
speed fueling at various points on the new
attenuator. Thru our design and installation
teams we were able to meet our client’s
demands for high speed fueling at all eight
fueling points, and for the new fuel system
to be in operation in 8 weeks.

The
design required the installation of an additional
12,000 gallons of diesel storage. The existing
geotechnical reports suggested unstable soil
conditions, so the installation of H pilings
66 ft below the 1ft reinforced anchoring slab
were installed to give the installation stability.
The next step was to retrofit the existing
diesel and gasoline storage tanks. The existing
and new diesel tanks are each be equipped
with 2-5hp Fe Petro submersible pumping units,
piping is manifold at the piping sumps. A
siphon system is also installed to give the
client 24,000 gallons of diesel storage.

The
installation of (2) two Environ flexible UV
protected 3" coaxial fuel lines for diesel,
and (1) one Environ flexible UV protected
2"coaxial fuel line for gasoline were
placed inside piping troughs in both the existing
and new dockage.
Fuel
dispensing was accomplished by the installation
of (8) eight PMC Marine dispensers with electronic
readout. This system has enabled The City
Marina to exceed 100gpm at (4) four designated
fueling points.
